Welcome to my website! I’m so happy you found me! I feel “pawsitive” that you will enjoy my puppies, Lilly and Livingston, and the values that are found in The Perfectly Imperfect Puppies Series.
I bet your first question is how did I find Lilly and Livingston? In 2012, my Shih Tzu Polo crossed the “rainbow bridge,” and I was heartbroken. Luckily, my sister found two Shih Tzu puppies up for adoption. When my husband and I drove to see them, the puppies were jumping up on us as if they were begging us to take both. We were planning on adopting one puppy, not two. At first, my head said, “No,” but then my heart said, “Yes!” I asked why they were being given up at 9 months old, and the breeders’ answer was surprising– they were “imperfect.” They were bred to compete in dog competitions. The more the breeders pointed out their imperfections, the more convinced I was that they had to be mine. After all, I was imperfect, too. We named them Lilly and Livingston.
Your second question might be what is my background? In June 2025, I retired from a 50-year career as an educator. I have a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Guidance and Counseling in Higher Education. Those degrees have given me opportunities to teach at the elementary, middle, and high school levels as well as become a college counselor and instructor. I’ve also taught incarcerated teens, adults who wanted to earn their High School Equivalency diploma, and immigrants who wanted to learn English. I have been blessed by my students!
Why write children’s books now? I have loved being a teacher and making a difference in the lives of students. I am passionate about kindness, patience, acceptance, and forgiveness among other values. You will find that each one of my books teaches gentle lessons for children. In addition to the books, you will find The Backstory, Questions for Discussion, and Activities tailored to each story that can be downloaded for free to use with children. My plan is for the series to be released throughout 2025-2026.
Who is the illustrator? Noted artist Chris Rosati Yoos illustrated the picture books in a whimsical, wonderful way! She captured the looks and essence of Lilly and Livingston!
The Perfectly Imperfect Puppies Series includes:
